Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies
The journal Smart Economy, Entrepreneurship and Security recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in scientific research and academic publishing. The use of such technologies is permitted only as a supportive tool that does not replace the author’s intellectual contribution, does not compromise the integrity of the research, and does not violate principles of academic integrity. This policy is based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and international standards of scholarly publishing.
Acceptable Use of AI Technologies
Authors may use AI-assisted tools for technical and editorial support in manuscript preparation, including language editing, grammar checking, improvement of clarity and style, structuring of the text, formatting of references, translation, and the creation of visualizations based on the authors’ own data. Such use must not alter the scientific meaning of the work or substitute the author’s original contribution. Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and scientific validity of their work.
Unacceptable Use
The journal does not permit the use of AI for generating substantial parts of a manuscript without appropriate author oversight and intellectual contribution, nor for fabrication or falsification of research data. The creation of fictitious references, citations, or sources is strictly prohibited, as is the use of AI to circumvent plagiarism detection systems. AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors. The use of AI in the peer review or editorial process without explicit permission from the Editorial Board is also prohibited.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors are required to disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of their manuscript. The disclosure must include the name of the tool used, a description of how it was applied, and a statement confirming that the authors have verified the content and take full responsibility for its accuracy and integrity. This information should be included in a dedicated section of the manuscript or within the acknowledgements.
Authorship and Responsibility
AI tools cannot be considered authors or co-authors, as they do not meet the criteria for authorship. Full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the research, as well as for proper citation and compliance with ethical and legal standards, rests entirely with the authors.
Editorial Process
Editors and reviewers must ensure the confidentiality of submitted materials and should not upload manuscripts or their parts to external AI systems or platforms if this may compromise confidentiality. The use of such tools is permitted only with appropriate safeguards and, where necessary, explicit authorization from the Editorial Board.
Compliance and Sanctions
Violation of this policy is considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in rejection of the manuscript, retraction of a published article, notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions, or restrictions on future submissions.
Policy Updates
The Editorial Board reserves the right to revise and update this policy in response to the evolving nature of AI technologies and changes in international standards of scholarly publishing.
